Mississauga Absolute Condos Among World's Best New Skyscrapers
Congratulations to the Absolute Towers, or the more famously known as ‘Marilyn Monroe’ Towers, for being named the best tall building in the America’s!
Other world-renowned winners include 1 Bligh Street in Sydney, Palazzo Lombardia in Milan and Doha Tower in Doha. The 2012 Winners were picked by the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat based on their design and technical innovations, sustainable attributes and the enhancement of both cities and the lives of their inhabitants.
The Al Bahar Towers in Abu Dhabi won the first Innovation Award for the project’s computer-controlled sun-screen.
“The winners display remarkable creativity, as well as a respect for the environment, connection with place, and the urban surroundings,” said Richard Cook, awards committee chairman and founding partner of Cook+Fox Architects.
Mississauga’s Absolute Towers are expected to be complete by August, as the penthouses and executive suites are still being finished. It’s striking shape has already generated the attention of buyers from home and abroad. Buyers have come from around the world, particularly Dubai.
While some were surprised to see such a high profile condo being built in a suburban area, Kevin Brass, public affairs manager for the Council, says the towers are in step with global trends.
“There’s been a more fundamental shift,” he said. “In the past, towers were almost universally office towers, and they were icons for companies.”
Replacing cubicles, homes and hotels are now occupying the world’s tallest buildings. They also no longer focus on simply being fancy, but also functional, with an emphasis on efficiency and quality of life. New towers are also being built in younger and smaller cities, such as Mississauga.
