What Is “Inspiration Lakeview”?
Inspiration Lakeview is a special project in Mississauga that is set to transform the Lakeview waterfront from an eyesore to a sustainable and remarkable development. The new vision will change approximately 100 ha of Lakefront land into something new and exciting.
Behind the vision
Residents were invited to share their vision, needs and ideas for this Lakefront property to help turn it into a mixed-use community that would be sustainable and vibrant. Ideas were also more than welcome from business leaders and the community at large. From this vision a core list of principles were put into place that could be used as a reference point throughout the development. Ideas were presented to Urban Strategies Inc., which is a world-class team of consultants.
According to Mayor Hazel MaCallion, the dream was for residents in Mississauga to see their children and grandchildren walking along the boardwalk
and the shores of the waterfront that would be situated in a strong community. At community meetings residents shared that they would like to see the western pier in Lakeview become accessible as one of the first steps towards connecting back up with the waterfront.
This vision will offer residents a panoramic view of the eastern shoreline of Mississauga and a chance to link the Waterfront Trail to the Lakefront Promenade Park.
2012 and the vision still lives on
Although this Inspiration Lakeview project has been on the coals for quite a while, it does take time to get such a plan put into place and ready for action. The plans first began back in October 2010 as key stakeholders and residents gathered together for presentations and visionary meetings for the Mississauga waterfront. We’re still hoping to hear some good news about taking a step forward and turning the waterfront in Lakeview into a beautiful area that all of the residents of Mississauga can enjoy for many years to come.
